Periodontal treatment can be divided four phases. The first phase is the fundamental cleaning, root planning, and oral health care. The second phase is surgery, including periodontal flap surgery, gingivectomy, crown lengthening surgery, the connective tissue grafting, guided tissue regeneration, bone regeneration surgery. The third phase is periodontal maintenance. The fourth phase is complex rehabilitation.

Gingival tissue graft
Due to severe periodontal disease, aggressive brushing or some other factors, gingival recession can be resulted and the root surfaces expose. This often results in sensitivity and bad appearance.
With the help of gingival graft, soft tissue is cut to cover the exposed root surface. It can reduce tooth sensitivity and restore appearance.
Crown lengthening
Crown lengthening procedure makes the teeth look longer. There are two conditions applicable:
1. For teeth that are too short due to excessive gum covering most of the crown portion, the procedure make the teeth look more esthetic.
2. For teeth with deep dental decay extending below the gingival margin, access to this decay is unpractical. Crown lengthening procedure helps to expose the tooth structure and allows proper restoration.

Guided tissue regeneration
Severe periodontal disease causes the bone damaged. Guided tissue regeneration is used to regenerate the lost bone and tissue.
It will be replaced barrier membranes in between of between the surface of the tooth root and the tooth to direct the growth of bone and gingival tissue. It can help to gain the new bone and gingival tissue.
